The Final Winter An Apocalyptic Horror Novel eBook Iain Rob Wright
I have mixed emotions about this book. The character development was excellent and the story was interesting, but about 3/4 of the way into it the plot took a dive into the toilet. It suddenly became some super-lame preachy Baptist sermon and felt like the author just lost interest in the book and threw something together to finish it off. Then it started babbling with "fear God" for what seemed to go on for pages at a time. There are a few places throughout the book where the wrong characters names are used leaving the reader confused and wondering if the book had an editor.
Also, I felt like some things in the plot were too juvenile to swallow. For example - according to the book, if you tape a page from a dirty magazine to a broom handle, it can be used to ward off angels. Also, angels can't enter a pub because they're EEEEEVIL. (WHAT!?? LOL) If it weren't for excessive foul language, the sheer number of gross over-simplifications about "good" vs "evil" would make me think the book was trying to convert 13 year olds into Christianity.
It felt like a huge let down for something that had a lot of potential.

The Final Winter An Apocalyptic Horror Novel eBook Iain Rob Wright Reviews
Loved this book! Wright captures your interest in the first pages and runs with it straight through to the end. The characters are trapped in a bar during the worst snow storm ever. However, it's not just any snow storm. There are unknown things in the snow that watch and wait...and kill. It's at once a story of survival and a story of death and horror. Fascinating also because of the character's personalities and how it twists who should suffer, but doesn't. Some said what the creatures in the snow were was obvious. I don't agree. Although, I did have my suspicious about the anonymous bar patron that showed up unexpectedly. Interesting read. It definitely reminded me a bit of a particular Stephen King story and also of a horror movie that was out several years ago. I can't name either here as that would give away some of the suspense. Well worth a summer read.
I was sent a suggestion for this book from and it was on sale. I just finished an ARC read and was having troubles leaving that book behind. What a better way to clear your mind of romance than to read a horror novel? It worked!
I was impressed from the start. I love the reference to the master of horror, Stephen King. I liked the characters and got immersed in the book fast. I am one of those people that has to know what is going to happen next, so I hate when most books end. I always have questions left and no one to ask them about. The thing that really, really impressed me about this book was the bonus scenes at the end. It was awesome!!
Now, I have read some of the not so nice reviews of this book. I don't understand what they didn't like. Typically I read romance/erotica, so most people wouldn't think I would like horror too. Maybe the wrong audience? I don't know, but this book is a great read and it makes you think long after you are done reading the book.
I am not going to give you a book report of the book I just read. Plus I know I would spoil something. What I can tell you is that the writing is very good and the storyline(s) are easy to follow. Yes, more than one storyline, but Wright pulls it off brilliantly. I could picture the book in my head like a movie and the cutscenes were just where they needed to be.
Note to Mr. Wright What you revealed as the villain. I just LOVED that. Bravo Mr. Wright, Bravo!!
Speaking as someone who likes to review from her perception of the book and the story as a whole more than the "literal relevance and grammatical syntax blah blah blah" this was one Hell of a ride.
The story starts with probably the harshest winter ever seen with record snowfalls all around the globe. The main portion of the story takes place in a pub where several people have holed up to wait out the inclement weather. What they did they not know was that the weather was just the harbinger of something more ominous than a little bit of snow. As we get to know the characters, we find out that not everyone is telling everything. While the storm and apparent paranormal activity rages outside, there is also a danger lurking inside.
To not give too much away this really turns into what can only be described as an "epic" (and I HATE that word) battle of good v. evil. The only problem is the lines between good and evil appear to be blurred at points. It's difficult to know who is who and when you finally find out, it's usually with a WTF moment. I was literally screaming at my kindle one minute and cheering the next!
The character backstories (for the ones who matter) are fairly well developed. Overall, this was a great read. And one I can definitely see reading again in the future.
Final winter had my attention very quickly but lost interest very quickly but had to finish it. There were times when you felt happy, scared, sad enough to cry and your heart raced but that only lasted so long. I thought the editing was horrible and the book seemed childish at times. I didnt realize that I was being taken into a religious story although I get it and loved it. The characters needed to be discussed more....talk about their lives to each other.
Although this book wasnt what I anticipated and wasnt thought through long enough, I enjoyed most of the book and did get teary eyed at 2 particular parts.
Cant say I would reccommend this it unless like me you are in between books .... I needed something to read while waiting for the next book in my series (dark erotica 😆) and saw this book and thought why not try a horror book ...
This writer has potential
